過去進行時表示過去某一時刻或某一段時間內(nèi)進行或發(fā)生的動作。
1. 各種句式的構(gòu)成：
（1） 肯定句：主語+was\were+doing, 當(dāng)主語是第一人稱單數(shù)和第三人稱是，助動詞be用was, 當(dāng)主語是其他人稱時都用were.
e.g. I\He\She was reading newspaper at that time.
那是我/他/她正在看報紙。
They were watching TV from 8:00 to 9:00 the day before yesterday.
前天8點到9點他們正在看電視。
（2） 否定句：在助動詞was\were 后面直接加not.
e.g. He was not playing football when I saw him.
當(dāng)我看到他的時候他正在踢足球。
（3） 一般疑問句及回答：把助動詞was\were 提到句首變?yōu)橐话阋蓡柧�，回答肯定形式是Yes,主語+was\were; 否定回答是No, 主語+was\were+not.
e.g. Was he singing? Yes, he was.\No, he wasn’t.
2.過去進行時的用法。
（1）表示過去某一時刻正在進行的動作，常與時間狀語 at that time, at that moment, this time yesterday, at nine yesterday morning 等表示過去的時間狀語以及由as, when, while 引導(dǎo)的時間狀語從句連用。
e.g. I was teaching my little brother at that time last night.昨天晚上那個時候我在教我的小弟弟。
What were you doing when I called you last night?昨天晚上我給你打電話的時候你在干什么？
（2）表示過去某一段時間內(nèi)正在進行的動作，常與時間狀語 those days, that week, last night等連用。
e.g. They were planting trees those days.
那些天他們正在植樹。
He was visiting Beijing that week.
那周他正在北京參觀。
3.過去進行時與一般過去時的區(qū)別：
（1）過去進行時強調(diào)動作的連續(xù)性和進行性；一般過去時強調(diào)發(fā)生的動作或單純敘述過去的事情，強調(diào)動作的結(jié)果，說明有過這件事。
e.g. I was doing my homework yesterday.我昨天正在做作業(yè)。
I did my homework yesterday.我昨天做了作業(yè)。
（2）當(dāng)敘述過去發(fā)生的事，尤其是過程中發(fā)生的一系列動作都用一般過去時。
e.g. I began to do some reading at seven. Then I went to bed at ten. 我7點鐘開始看書，然后十點開始上床睡覺。
